Earlier today I attended the moving VVMF ceremony at The Wall. I saw Vietnam veterans tracing the names of fallen brothers and sisters etched in granite, and families leaving keepsakes and mementos for lost loved ones. Many had just come from — or were on their way to — Arlington Cemetery.
They and those they remember are the reason we need to build the Education Center. We need to do it for Sharon Deane and her brave father. For Virgil Deckard and his heroic brother, who died of injuries sustained in Vietnam, and his son, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq.
And we need to build the Center for the veterans in your life. Together we can make sure the 58,282 names on The Wall — and all who gave their lives in service to country from Bunker Hill to Baghdad — are remembered for generations to come.
