LEGISLATIVE ALERT Nov 14th 2012
After many years seeking to gain Property Tax relief for combat-disabled veterans who moved to Florida and those surviving spouses of veterans who died as a result of service-connected disabilities, we have finally received an avenue to get laws passed to allow that relief.
During the 2011-2012 Legislative Session, the two bills were considered to change our state’s Constitution sailed through the entire House and Senate without one “Nay” vote. Yesterday, Florida voters voted to allow laws to be proposed which would effect those changes. (Ballot Initiatives 2 and 9.)
I want to personally thank members of the House and Senate, all the member organizations of the Bay County Veterans Council, the Florida Veterans Council, and their family members and Florida voters as a whole for getting this accomplished.
We’re not entirely there yet. One more step is needed. That is to get laws passed to put those Constitutional changes in effect. That will be my personal priority for the upcoming legislative session. Once again, I ask all member organizations of the Bay County Veterans Council to rally your Senator and Representative to support any bills filed which will enact these coverages.
